1) Always keep your pencil sharp. It will mean you can create accurate lines and refine detail.
2) Keep your drawing clean! Remove marks and lines you do not need, it will prevent confusion and make shading far more realistic.
3) Expensive materials do not make great artists. You do not need anything flashy to create amazing drawings, I regularly use a Steadtler pencil set I picked up from my local Tesco, it's about skills not money.
